• 3rd global pollutant: 1/5th of CO2 output comes from land-clearing fires.
• Tropical forests (in)directly affected by environmental changes absorb less and less CO2.

“The butterfly effect” & Soya’s misdeeds

Sumatra tigers are Critically Endangered. The causes:

• The expansion of palm oil and acacia plants lying behind the land-clearing fires.
• Deforestation pushing the Sumatra tiger away from its environment, where it’s already hunted.
• Around 75% of the soya produced globally is aimed at feeding livestock.
• More than 1 million km2 of lands are dedicated to soya culture. The size of France is 672 051km2.

The Poacher and The Ant & “So long, football fields”

• All 8 existing pangolin species are Critically Endangered.
• It’s the most poached animal worldwide, for its scale and meat.
• 24 million Ha of forest have been destroyed between 1990 and 2015 in Indonesia.
• 140 000 Ha faced the same fate between 1973 and 2015 in Thailand.

I made this infographic for the French association Ahims’Animals to highlight the poorly known damages caused by deforestation. In 2018, they crowdfunded a 3 weeks eco-volunteering mission in the Cikananga Wildlife Center in Indonesia. “Give one’s tongue to pangolins” was the theme of their third educational trip.
